The UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO) launched the “Peer To Patent” pilot, which allows the public to participate in the patent review process. The aim of this project is to involve the general public in the examination of patents, in particular by allowing the people in the scientific and technological fields to inform patent examiners about any prior art documents. This way, the project expects to “prove that organized public participation can improve the quality of issued patents”.
