One year ago the patent information centres (collectively known as PATLIB) were re-oriented in order to allow SMEs, which more often lack the tools to exploit the patent system, to better benefit from their services. In this context, a pilot project including some of the PATLIBs started in November 2010 to extent the services available in order to include extended search services, commercialisation support, patent strategy support and much more. The pilot is running for six months now and it seems that it has been a success so far. Indeed, according to the European Patent Office (EPO), which supports the PATLIB network, “feedback from PATLIB centre clients has been positive”.
