On the 12th of June the European Commission published its latest report on the implementation progress in the fives areas addressed by Recommendation 2011/711/EU (organisation and funding of the digitisation endeavour, online accessibility of public domain material, online accessibility of copyright protected material, digital preservation and further development of Europeana).

In this document, the Commission identifies best practices, opportunities for economies of scale and proposes possible synergies with other initiatives.

This report should also be put in relation with the recently approved Directive on copyright in the Digital Single Market, where a mandatory exception was introduced in order to improve the preservation of cultural heritage through digitalisation.
