This week the European Commission published a report commissioned by the Information Society and Media Directorate-General entitled “Legal analysis of a Single Market for the Information Society: New rules for a new age?”. This study reviews the EU legal framework on the information society and puts forward recommendations on possible legal changes. The Copyright Directive (2001/29/EC) is one of the directives analysed in this study.

According to the European Commission “the findings of the study support the conclusions of the Digital Agenda for Europe on the need to modernise and harmonise further the legislative framework applicable to information society services in the Digital Single Market.
