We are pleased to announce that a new issue of the European IPR Helpdesk Bulletin has been released and is now available on-line. This fifth issue, starting the second year series, is thicker and covers some crucial areas of interest for our readers.
First, hints on a low-cost patent strategy are given mainly to SMEs that often have little financial capabilities and cannot really afford the heavy costs of the patent system. A further box on the SMEs internationalisation opportunity study is also a tip for small businesses wishing to expand their activity.
Also in this issue, there are several articles concerning knowledge transfer contracts. Indeed, as a follow-up to a previous article, the piece from the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Centre provides the readers with many concrete scenarios where ADR mechanisms can be very useful and gives examples of clauses to be introduced in contracts. The problem of contractual liability within FP7 projects is the subject of another article, which includes an overview of the main provisions on liability included in the current models of consortium agreements.
Standardisation as support to European funded projects is the topic of an article striving to point out the importance of standards during the project life-cycle.
Finally, two good examples of successful IP centres within academic institutions are presented, illustrating how well the EC Recommendation on the management of intellectual is being implemented in the European member states.
